It’s time to talk about China

The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused the deaths of thousands and ground the world’s economy to a halt, originated in China and it is almost certain that the Chinese government could have prevented its outbreak. Doctors who first tried to warn of the virus were silenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the unelected government of China.

Furthermore, unsanitary practices at China’s infamous ‘wet markets’ are believed to be the source of this and other viruses. Yet, despite this, some Western leaders, as well as global bodies such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) have attempted to persuade the world to look away from China’s record on these matters.

The COVID-19 outbreak is certain to bring immeasurable change in its wake; social, economic and political. The populations of Western countries for example are now learning about China as it comes under the global microscope. Its lack of freedoms and rights, its authoritarian and heavy-handed nature, its cruelty to animals, its lack of regard for environmentalism are now more widely known than previously in our lifetimes. This presents us with a great opportunity – to completely change our attitude towards China.

China is a global giant, second only to the United States. Unlike the United States however, China is led by a secretive and sinister dictatorship which has shown itself to regard life as cheap.
